The researchers from the Postgraduate Program in Biological Sciences – Toxicological Biochemistry at UFSM, Cristina Wayne Nogueira, Maria Rosa Chitolina and Vera Melquiors Morsch, are among the highlights of Open Box Science , a project that highlights the most productive scientists in Brazil. It is a platform created by Gênero e Número , a data journalism organization that works on gender and race issues. The Open Box Science platform presents a cartography of 250 women scientists and the scope of their respective research, through a methodology of data collection, analysis and classification via the Lattes Platform, the project selected 50 women scientists from Brazil in the areas of Biological Sciences , Exact and Earth Sciences, Applied Social Sciences and also Health.
The UFSM researchers in Biological Sciences are permanent professors of the Program, with academic performance of international prominence. In the area of biochemistry, Professor Cristina Nogueira has a recognized career in the area of pharmacology and toxicology. His research is entitled “Diphenyl diselenide a janus-faced molecule” and he currently coordinates the Laboratory of Reactivity Synthesis and Pharmacological and Cayman Islands Phone Number List Toxicological Evaluation of Organochalcogens. Professor Maria Chitolina develops work on the topics: NTPDase, 5′-nucleotidase, acetylcholinesterase, ALA-D, catalase and superoxide dismutase in different diseases in humans and in experimental models. She is also vice-president of the Brazilian Purinas Club. In the area of Pharmacology, the platform highlights the work of professor Vera Morsch . Also focusing on toxicology, the UFSM researcher works on the topics NTPDase, 5′-nucleotidase, acetylcholinesterase.
Among his current projects, his study of neurobiological and oxidative stress and behavioral mechanisms in cases of aluminum contamination stands out. Open Box Ciência also presents a profile of the 50 Brazilian scientists in each area of knowledge, reports and also a series of data that outline a profile of Brazilian higher education.Eduardo says that, initially, he was working with FAO data from 2013, which was the most updated at the time. However, after the first round of evaluation of the article carried out by the Journal World Development reviewers, the FAO made available data related to food waste in the world from 2014 to 2017. As a result, all analyzes carried out had to be updated. Eduardo states that the work is already reverberating throughout the academic community dedicated to the study of food security. In addition to the publication, he was invited to participate, at the end of the year, at the 4th International Conference on Global Food Security, in Montpellier, France, to speak about the topic covered in the article.
